I periodically offer a class for new, current, and prospective bird owners (but, really, anyone is welcome). The class will cover the basic needs of an avian companion and the most recent research and information about how best to fulfill those needs, including but not limited to:
*proper housing
*nutrition
*cheap and easy toy-making ideas
*environmental enrichment
*cheap and easy cleaning methods
*health and wellness
*behavior
*disaster and disease prevention
*first aid
*numerous resources available for people living with companion parrots
*and much more!
There is a book that goes along with the class, and I would highly recommend that you download and read the book beforehand so that if you have any questions regarding the content you can address them at class time. The book can be downloaded here:
Information about the next class is as follows:
The next class is being paired with a Barbara Heidenreich workshop for an entire weekend of fun avian education. Please visit Austin Parrot Society's page for more information about the workshop and how to sign up.

Interested in hosting this class in your city? Feel free to do so! You can contact me for a copy of my lesson plan, and can distribute the .pdf file of the Bird Owner's Manual from your own website. All I ask is that you collect donations for a reputable avian rescue group (if you are a rescue group, you can collect donations for your group), and send me a report of how the class went, what suggestions you might have received, and any ideas you might have come up with to enhance or improve the class. Thanks!
